Founded in 2018 by Pearl Yelena Lapeña, Sew Local PH is a Cebu-based independent swimwear brand specializing in handmade, made-to-order, and highly customizable swimwear tailored to their customers’ size and preference. The brand is built on one belief: swimwear should fit the wearer, not the other way around.
“We have very limited options available, especially with swimwear. So, I make it a point that it’s non-negotiable that customers will be able to customize their swimwear according to how they like them,” Pearl says.
That conviction didn’t come from a business plan. It came from personal frustration.
Sew Local started as a hobby, a product of Pearl’s love for crafts and upcycling, and the realization that standard mall sizing wasn’t working for her. “I realized, why not make something for myself? So, I started making bikinis for myself. Then my friends started asking me about them,” she shares. What followed was less of a launch and more of a natural unfolding.
What started out as Pearl’s personal project has transformed into a quiet game changer for those who always had to compromise comfort or style when it came to swimwear. Today, Sew Local offers a wide range of styles, from best-selling high-waisted cuts and classic triangle tops to timeless one-pieces that can be worn as a top alone.
The selection covers a vast range of designs, colors, and fabrics. You can also opt to order just the top or bottom so you can mix, match, and build combinations based on your style preference. Coverage is customizable, too, with boyshorts and skirt options available for those who want a little more.
Even at 90K organic followers, Sew Local continues to prioritize craftsmanship and customization over fast fashion production. For Pearl, that focus has never shifted. “I want them to feel like the swimsuit is really made for them. That’s why we have the customized option every single day because we want our customers to feel and know that we have them in mind while we’re making their swimwear,” she shares.
