Find Your True Hue: Cara Durano Brings Out The Best Version of You

Color analysis may have recently gotten the spotlight on Reels and TikTok, but it’s been discussed in fashion and beauty magazines for years. Based on research, I made my own conclusions about my season and thought I was already working with hues that suited my complexion.

As it turns out, I was completely wrong. You see, it’s one thing to read about. It’s completely different when you work with someone like Cara Durano of True Hue Cebu.

“It’s actually for lazy people,” Cara shared with a laugh when I asked why she got into color analysis. As a single mom who also helps run a real estate development business, Cara found that knowing her color palette helped streamline her daily routine. Of course, that makes sense. When everything you have in your closet works for your skin tone, everything you put on makes you look good.

Cara began the session by pulling out a color cube, which she explains is “Korean technology, and can detect your undertone and overtone.” It feels very scientific as Cara positions it on my face, and checks the results. As it turns out, my complexion is on the cooler side, completely different from the warm tones I’d always assumed.

Of course, it’s hard to argue with technology. And since Cara had been certified for color analysis in Japan, I was inclined to trust her too.

Cara’s color analysis career started with her self-development journey after she became a mother. She talked about finding inner contentment in her life but felt like her appearance didn’t reflect that. When color analysis went viral on social media, she decided to go ahead and splurge on the service. “I started getting compliments, and people were seeing the difference. I realized that I wanted to help people do the same.”

After the pandemic, Cara decided to train for color consultancy in Japan, a decision she made because she found the Japanese to look very natural and put together. It was also important to her that she took physical classes for draping because colors didn’t translate as well through a screen, and in draping, you have to train your eyes to see color as accurately as possible.

That said, draping was the next part of the session—and the part that most people look forward to. Cara explains that some people can immediately see the shift in their appearance when held up to certain colors, though she is happy to explain why some hues don’t work to those who can’t see the difference.

Ideally, the color analysis would be done with your natural hair, but since that’s a rarity, Cara keeps your hair out of your face to ensure the focus is on your complexion.

We go through the swatches—from cool to warm, light to dark—to see which worked best for me. It’s amazing how instant the difference is with some colors—some made undereye circles look darker, and some washed me out. The best ones evened out my skin tone and enhanced my eyes and lip color.

As it turned out, I was a Deep Winter who looked best with colors on the deeper side. As the session wraps up, Cara sits down with me to talk about exactly what that means. We discuss everything, from ideal color combinations to makeup and hair color recommendations. Cara was very thorough, answering any questions I had about my results.

“Color theory is about making practical decisions based on your palette,” Cara explained. That’s why the consultation section was so important. Cara is all about giving you the tools to make sure you can apply everything you learned from the session to your everyday life.

This is exactly what Cara hopes you can take away from a session at True Hue Cebu—the tools you need to become the best version of yourself, in the easiest way possible.

True Hue Cebu now also offers face analysis services, which help you figure out your face shape and identify the haircut, sunglasses style, and neckline that works for you. To learn more about their services, you can check them out on Facebook and Instagram.
