Dads. Tough on the outside but really, they’re like cinnamon rolls hugging you with warmth and sweetness.
It sounds mushy but it’s true. Think about it, no matter what, they are always there for us. Whether it’s the simplest things like getting the car repaired, to the really hard stuff that goes on in our lives—count on them to be there front and center, and armed with words of wisdom; after all, there’s no man better to give advice than your dad.
In celebration of Father’s Day, we asked these dads their input on different subjects, from figuring out what to make of yourself, to finding your partner—grown-up stuff.
Choosing Your Career
“No matter what you decide for now, keep an open mind and be flexible. Because in the course of school or training, something new or unplanned opportunities may arise or that will interest you. A person or an achievement may inspire you. But if a parent’s wishes are involved, respect their opinion but work on proving yourself worthy of their trust so you can make your own direction. If I may add, follow your passion because when you’re passionate about something, you get to be creative, you get to work everyday excited, and look forward that you grow and continue to improve.” – Dondon Hontiveros, Cebu City Counsilor-South District
Starting a Business
“Pick something that you’re passionate about. Something that you get excited in the morning, when you wake up, you’re excited when you go to your meeting, or even maybe you’re after office, you still think about it. It’s something you enjoy doing because everything will be so easy for you.” – Blake Go, Prince Stores Vice President – Business development and Finance
Savings and Investments
“Having life insurance is one of the best ways to protect your income. Second, do your research. There is no excuse nowadays not to know the company behind the development, or the brand of the car you’re getting, and acquire your asset that best suits you and your family. Third, invest in things that can provide your family cash flow.
Fourth, stay liquid. Having cash on hand is very very important. And finally, have financial rest when you invest, especially when debt, mortgage and amortization are involved, make sure that your investments do not affect you and your relationships negatively, and make sure you get to sleep soundly at night.” – OJ Cimafranca, Entrepreneur/Financial Advisor/Professional Host
Love, and How to Keep It
“Love is something that you do and show. It’s like a plant: you have to nurture it, you have to nourish it, you have to feed it. You have to really show it, otherwise it will just die down and the other person will not feel it.” – Gerald Yuvallos, Businessman
