Cake Therapy: Why Janelle’s Creations Are Worth Celebrating

Let them eat cake. (Minus the out-of-touch aristocratic ignorance of Marie Antoinette when she allegedly said this phrase.) Because who wouldn’t like a slice of cake? Cake is the ultimate treat, a bite of pure bliss that can make any day feel like a celebration. Whether it’s a buttery vanilla sponge, a decadent chocolate masterpiece, or a funfetti explosion, every bite is a party in your mouth.

This joy that cakes bring was something that Janelle Untal realized early on in life. “I started baking ever since I was little. I loved how I impressed people with what I made and how it made me feel happy,” she shares.

In 2016, she started selling cupcakes. The year after, she used her earnings to buy supplies for cooking classes and experiments. From there, it all fell into place. Fast forward to today, Janelle runs a successful business called Bakeology by Chin.

“You know how in every family, there’s always that one [person] who loves baking? That’s me,” Janelle points out. Known for her beautifully customized cakes and pastries, she pours her love for baking into every creation. True to her motto, each treat is genuinely “baked from the heart.”

While Janelle still sells cupcakes, her true forte lies in her cakes. Over the years, she’s honed her craft to become a household name, known for her birthday cakes, baptism cakes, and even cheeky bachelorette cakes. The last bit makes her and her staff laugh, given how often she receives requests for playful and quirky themes. She also makes cake towers, pull-apart cakes, bento cakes, and cookies.

Rightfully so, there’s magic in every element of her cake—from the moist, flavorful base to the silky icing and delicate fondant. Her best-selling flavors, chocolate and vanilla, never fail to impress. Her special flavors like matcha, mocha, Oreo, funfetti, and red velvet bring something extra to the table. Now, fondant can be divisive, you either hate it or love it, but Janelle’s fondant is perfectly smooth, subtly sweet, and transforms her cakes into works of art without compromising on flavor.

“This year, I wanted something special for the cakes,” Janelle says when asked about her Christmas menu. For this Christmas, she crafted a colorful Christmas tree cake that stands like a real Christmas tree. A festive menu for a festive season—her creations are a testament to her talent and versatility.

For bigger gatherings, you can order the Christmas Tower, which has 40 pieces of cake pops, or the 7×3” Christmas Drip Cake. For more intimate gatherings, you can choose from a selection of four 4×3” bento cakes and a Christmas Bento Set with five Christmas-themed cupcakes. Make it fun with the kids with the Christmas DIY Bento Set or the Christmas DIY Sugar Cookie Set.

Who needs a Pinterest board when you can check out Bakeology by Chin on Instagram for cake inspiration? In the future, you might not have to scroll at all. Plans are in the works to open a physical store, where you can not only see the cake-creating process but also enjoy freshly baked breads and pastries.

Customize your dream cake with Bakeology by Chin by sending them a message on Instagram at @dcakesbybakeology or @bakeologybychin.
