Spice Up Your Stay as Thai-tanic Flavors Dock at NUSTAR Cebu’s Fili Café

Thai cuisine undoubtedly has a lot of the most vibrant flavors, thanks to all their aromatic ingredients. Rooted in a rich cultural heritage, Thai food masterfully balances sweet, sour, salty, and spicy elements. A distinctive heat is a hallmark of the cuisine. For people with low spice tolerance, indulging in Thai cuisine is a beautifully painful experience—something that one savors despite the fiery challenge it presents because it’s just that good.

Coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Thailand, Fili Hotel NUSTAR Cebu is having a four-day celebration of Thai cuisine called “Quintessentially Thai”. From August 1 until August 4, you can experience Thailand’s rich flavors and traditional dishes at Fili Café.

(From L-R) Tom Yam Goong; Talay Phad Prikpao

Quintessentially Thai’s menu features traditional Thai dishes skillfully prepared by Chef Suthin Songmuang from Benjarong. Each dish is crafted to deliver an authentic experience of Thailand’s rich culinary traditions.

Start your meal with Tom Yam Goong, which is a sweet, sour, and hearty soup with shrimp, galangal, lemon grass, kaffir lime, chili, mushroom, and tomato. Larb Gai, a minced chicken salad with mint leaves, chili, onion, and coriander, offers an aromatic start to the meal.

Gang Khieo Wan Gai

If you’re looking for a sweet and sour stir-fried dish, the Talay Phad Prikpao, which is stir-fried shrimp, squid, and mussels, is a good pick. Stir-frying is a quintessential technique in Thai food, brilliantly showcasing the cuisine’s ability to blend bold flavors and fresh ingredients.

At Fili, you’ll find Phad Ka Prao Nua, which is stir-fried beef with basil, garlic, chili, bell peppers, onions, and green beans. Another stir-fried dish you can find is Gai Phad Med Mamuang, which is Thai cashew chicken. Pla Sam Ros is also on the menu, which is stir-fried breaded fish.

Other iconic Thai dishes available at Fili are Gang Khieo Wan Gai, which is Thai green curry chicken, Gai Hor Batey, which is pandan-wrapped chicken, and Khai Khlook Kapi, which is fried rice.

Fili’s Thai spread would not be complete without the most iconic of all, Pad Thai Goong. This dish needs no introduction. This stir-fried rice noodle dish is cooked with shrimp, tamarind sauce, bean sprouts, and green onions.

Larb Gai; Khao Niew Ma Muang

To cap everything off, there’s Khao Niew Ma Muang, which is mango sticky rice with coconut cream. This dessert, a silky blend of creamy coconut and sweet mango, provides a delightful finish to the meal.

This event is a collaboration between Fili Hotel NUSTAR Cebu and Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu, two members of the esteemed Robinsons Hotels and Resorts group. As part of a chef exchange program between the sister companies, Chef Suthin is in Fili this month, while Korean Chef Yongjun will head to Dusit Thani in September.

Gai Hor Batey; Pad Thai Goong

As if the good food isn’t enough, diners spending Php5,000 or more will have a chance to win a roundtrip ticket from Cebu to Bangkok via Cebu Pacific and a two-night stay at Dusit Thani Hua Hin. Secondary prizes include an overnight stay at Dusit Thani Pattaya, and a two-night stay at Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu.
