The Tita’s Guide to Shopping on Shein

Much like probably everyone else who has ever bought clothing online, I have spent the past few months bombarded with Shein ads.

The online retail giant had already gained a following prior to the quarantine, but has since established itself as a big online shopping player. Most people have probably given in to the countless ads they put up on Facebook—the admittedly enticing photos of fresh-looking models in photo op-worthy ensembles. I’ve complimented friends on their outfits, and have been met with both sheepish or proud (mostly a combination of both) replies of, “I bought this on Shein.”

Admittedly, there was a certain level of apprehension that dissuaded me from browsing through the site, probably because of the aforementioned ads. The waifs featured were often wearing sporty separates, trendy crop tops, and statement accessories that felt like no one over 25 could pull off.

Not that you couldn’t if you wanted to—there’s just something about seeing these super cute girls in their hyper-cool looks that made me feel so much like my age (even older, if I’m being honest), and I’m hoping a lot of people in my generation would agree.

Yes, there’s something for everyone, even 30-something mini-Titas who are torn between looking cute and au courant, and going for classics that always look sophisticated.

I guess it was good fortune—or as my wallet would say, a stroke of bad luck—that a particularly appealing co-ords set featured on a Facebook ad prompted me to finally give in to curiosity and click through. And the rest, as they say, is a history of abusing the Add to Bag button and having too many items on the wishlist.

Yes, there’s something for everyone, even 30-something mini-Titas who are torn between looking cute and au courant, and going for classics that always look sophisticated. There’s a good number of choices on the site that are especially perfect for those who want to look effortless but thoughtful, put-together yet relaxed, and with just a tiny hint of our inner old ladies peeking through.

There is still a lot to be said for quality, and I do advocate investing in classic pieces that you know you’re going to be crazy about for ages. But for those everyday pieces that let you play into the season’s trends, or your next great Instagram-worthy ensemble, Shein is a great and convenient outlet to indulge your love for clothes.

There are pages and pages of products to sift through, but here are a few items that would be a good place to start your search.
