Kurt Fick Goes Independent With New Single 9/10

Vispop favorite Kurt Fick releases “9/10” today, October 15, and it comes with a few firsts. It is his first independent release and the first song to carry his own writing credit. The music video premieres the same day, sponsored by Jameson.

“9/10” starts with a pick-up line. Kurt once told a girl, “You’re a 9 out of 10 because I’m the 1 you need.” It went over well, until it turned out she wasn’t ready. The song picks up from there, with Kurt choosing to wait. The chorus says it plainly: “I can wait, bisag late.” It is a slow-burn love song for the yearners, and Kurt’s lambing era in full.

Musically, “9/10” is a funky disco dance track. Kurt grew up a Michael Jackson fan, even cosplaying as the King of Pop in contests, and there is a touch of Gary V energy in the mix too.

Kurt wrote the song with Jericho Streegan, Dave Evans, and Jerika Teodorico, who also wrote his 2022 hit “DI NA.” It was co-produced with Barry Villacarillo, with young multi-instrumentalist Azi Rodriguez playing on some of the instruments.

“It was a big risk, both creatively, since this is my first time writing, and business-wise, since I’m going independent,” Kurt says of the track.

“I originally wanted to release this on September 10, because it’s 9/10, but life had other plans. Things got busy, and it got delayed, but here we are, and I’m super proud of the work the team put in. There’s a line in the bridge, ‘all the good things in life take their time,’ and I guess I had to live that out myself.”

“9/10” is out now on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and all major streaming platforms. The music video is live on YouTube and Facebook.
