Single’s Inferno star Oh Jin-taek goes to paradise once more, but this time on the tropical island of Cebu! If you’re not up to date, Single’s Inferno is a Netflix dating reality show that instantly became a worldwide hit in 2021. The show centers on a group of single men and women who are placed on a deserted island referred to as “Inferno”. They must get to know each other and match with someone for a chance to spend time together in “Paradise” — a luxurious hotel featuring top-tier amenities, excellent service, and a wide selection of delicious food.
Starring in the show’s first season, you may remember Jin-taek as the man who was always dressed in impeccable and perfectly tailored suits despite being stuck on a hot and deserted island. This amusing yet admirable juxtaposition definitely created a lasting impression on the contestants as well as the audiences. Adding his sophisticated charm and wit to the mix, he soon became one of the most unforgettable contestants in the show.
Jin-taek finds paradise in Fili Hotel NUSTAR Cebu, the first and only five-star Filipino hotel brand. With an overlooking view of the sea, world-class amenities, and a diverse range of cuisines, Fili Hotel does not disappoint when it comes to both luxury and comfort.
“It’s like Single’s Inferno’s Paradise. It’s really similar,” Jin-taek says.
When it comes to food, Jin-taek excitedly shares his love for chorizo and danggit which are classics of a Filipino breakfast. Fili Hotel also offers a Korean station headed by Chef Yongjun. They offer authentic Korean dishes, like Jjimdak (braised chicken) rice bowls, which is the perfect pick-me-up if Korean guests are feeling a bit homesick.
Mixing business with pleasure
The hotel not only serves as the ultimate summer getaway for Jin-taek but it also provides a stepping stone for him to explore potential business opportunities for Ascottage. Ascottage is an atelier he co-founded which takes inspiration from the timeless and classic style of British menswear.
Jin-taek’s affinity for bespoke suits is not just a personal fashion style or preference. His passion goes beyond himself as he desires to handcraft suits that are perfectly tailored for others. When asked what prompted him to start Ascottage, Jin-taek shares that making suits for others makes him happy.
First launched in 2020, Ascottage has now gained popularity and success in the fashion industry scene in South Korea. They have dressed notable actors like Lee Byung-hun and Squid Game’s Lee Jung-jae, and also K-pop stars like Suho from EXO.
With Ascottage currently holding trunk shows in countries such as China and Thailand, Jin-taek expresses his enthusiasm for the idea of having a trunk show in Cebu. “We will come back to the Philippines every 3 or 4 months for work and trunk shows,” Jin-taek says regarding the planning of the potential ventures in the city.
A Night of Fun and Romance
Who knows more about romance than someone who participated in a dating show and successfully coupled up with someone by the end of it? In an exclusive meet-and-greet event “K-Cupid Night: Finding Love With Jin-taek”, Jin-taek sits down and hosts an intimate conversation with his fans about speed dating, dating tips, and all things love.
It’s been three years since the premiere of the first season of Single’s Inferno. A lot of things have changed since then but Jin-taek closely holds this one lesson he got from his experience in the show. “People’s emotions,” Jin-taek emphasizes. “You need to take care of others’ emotions carefully. It’s not only about the words or actions, but the heart.”
In an exclusive interview with Keeta, Jin-taek shares that love means everything to him: “I’m always on the lookout for love,” Jin-taek shares. “And now, I currently have a girlfriend.”
But don’t fret, ladies! Jin-taek also shares his top two dating tips which may help you find your Mr. or Mrs. Right. Touching on first impressions and affections of love, Jin-taek shares: “First of all, I think where you first decide to meet up is very important. Secondly, constantly complimenting your girlfriend is important and a nice habit to have.”
Sparks continue to fly as a matchmaking game, à la Single’s Inferno style, ensues between one bachelor and four potential love interests. After the ladies shared a glimpse of their personalities and interests, Jin-taek relayed a piece of advice to the bachelor that all of us need to hear, too: “Follow your heart.”
